About this place
Horton Plains National Park is part of the Central Highlands of Sri Lanka World Heritage property, alongside Peak Wilderness and Knuckles Conservation Forest. UNESCO highlights these montane forests as a super biodiversity hotspot, rising to around 2,500 meters and supporting endangered species including the Sri Lankan leopard and highland endemic primates. The classic visitor experience is the early-morning loop to World's End and Baker's Falls, when clouds are least likely to block the escarpment view. It is a cool, exposed, fragile landscape, so visitors should start early and keep to marked trails.
