Where to Try

Colombo Burgher bakeries, specialist lamprais kitchens, and weekend lunch services.

Lamprais is one of Sri Lanka's clearest examples of colonial-era culinary layering. Sri Lanka Tourism describes it as rice and accompaniments baked in plantain leaves, a legacy of Dutch influence. A traditional packet is richer and more elaborate than a standard rice packet, often combining stock-cooked rice, meat curry, frikkadels, brinjal moju, sambol, and other sides before the whole parcel is baked together. It is most closely associated with Colombo and Burgher cooking, and it rewards seeking out specialist kitchens rather than generic lunch counters.
