About this place
Kandy sits in the central hills around a ceremonial lake and remains one of Sri Lanka's most symbolically important cities. UNESCO identifies it as the last capital of the Sinhala kings and the home of the Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the country's foremost Buddhist pilgrimage sites. The city works as both a cultural destination and a transport hinge between Colombo, the tea country, Sigiriya, and the east. Its best rhythm is slow: early temple rituals, lakeside walks, evening performances, and time for museums and shrines.
